Hiking the Caves Circuit, Binna Burra | Lamington NP

For this hike I headed up to the Gold Coast’s Binna Burra section of Lamington National Park early in the morning for a 5:30am start to avoid the heat of the day. The Caves Circuit is approx. 4.5km long and begins by winding through Open Eucalypt Forest that is quite exposed to the cliff edge leading down into Coomera Valley.

The walk offers amazing views into the Coomera Valley and Darlington Range and plenty of wildlife along the way. I came across an Eastern Small-Eyed snake curled up on the side off the path in the first 50 metres of the walk. Approx. 1/3 of the way you will arrive at the Kweebani Caves before you start the climb up to the summit of Mount Roberts through thick rainforest and Red Cedar trees.

The circuit takes you through to the main Binna Burra carpark and back down the road to the car park where you started, however with the recent road upgrades this can be quite sketchy if there is a lot of traffic (as the road gets very narrow). I would recommend making this an ‘out and back’ trail and returning the same way you came after a coffee at the Binna Burra Tea House.
