Cinematic Hiking Adventure: Exploring Gwongoorool Rock Pools on the Illinbah Track

This weekend I was planning on hiking the Illinbah Circuit (also known as the Gwongoorool Track), however I started late and was trying out some new hiking boots (Hoka Stinson Mid GORE-TEX), so I ended up opting for the much shorter Illinbah Track which breaks off from the Illinbah Circuit about two or three kilometres in and heads down to the Gwongoorool Rock Pools, where I managed to get enough footage for a short cinematic hiking video before it got too hot.

Fortunately there was a bit of cloud cover and some light rain which kept the heat away and I managed to get 10km in and enjoy some fast-flowing creeks and waterfalls along the way. The hiking trail is only 5km, but the extra km’s involved in heading back and forth to the camera adds up pretty quick. It is quite steep as you head down into the valley towards the Commera River/Creek system to the Gwongoorool Rock Pools.

It had been raining quite frequently leading up to this weekend so there were plenty of waterfalls to enjoy on the way down that are not there during the drier months. I managed to get some nice aerial footage of the creek at the bottom of the track, but didn’t venture too far from the Gwongoorool Rock Pools, so alot of the creek footage is various angles of the same section of creek. It was a great opportunity to work on my ‘cinematic’ drone shots with the DJI Mavic Mini 2. The aerial video on the home page of this website is from this hike.

The new hiking boots I was trying were the Hoka Stinson Mid GORE-TEX Men’s Hiking Boots.

They were incredibly comfortable and I would recommend for anyone who is also part of the FFC (‘flat foot club’), suffering from pes planus (‘flat feet’). I’ll be using these in the future for my longer hikes.
