Tamborine Mountain Hiking

Tamborine Mountain, a splendid gem in the crown of Gold Coast’s lush landscapes, beckons hiking enthusiasts and nature lovers to explore its verdant trails and stunning views. Whether you are an avid hiker or a casual walker, the hiking trails at Tamborine Mountain offer a variety of landscapes and difficulty levels, ensuring there is something for everyone. In this guide, we’ll share a glimpse of an unforgettable Tamborine Mountain hiking experience, exploring the wonders of the Witches Falls Circuit and the abundant natural beauty of this remarkable location.

Tamborine Mountain Hiking

During a recent exploration of the Gold Coast hiking trails, I had the pleasure of staying at the charming Manor Motel, nestled in Eagle Heights at the pinnacle of Tamborine Mountain. With the renowned Witches Falls Circuit only a short drive away, it provided a perfect starting point for an exhilarating afternoon hike through the mesmerizing vistas of the national park, culminating in a breathtaking sunset from the lookout beside the iconic waterfall.

Tamborine Mountain stands as the northernmost relic of the flows originating from the volcano centered on Mount Warning (Wollumbin). It’s a living sanctuary, hosting 85% of all animal species and 65% of all plant species found in the City of Gold Coast area. Each step along the hiking trails at Tamborine Mountain unveils a diverse and flourishing ecosystem, a testament to the region’s rich biodiversity.

The Witches Falls Circuit, a particular highlight of Tamborine Mountain hiking, begins from the convenient car park and picnic area along Main Western Road. The trail descends swiftly into a Wet Eucalypt forest, eventually leading to thick, luxuriant rainforests interspersed with groves of Piccabeen Palm. It’s a harmonious blend of varying landscapes, each contributing to the distinctive allure of Tamborine Mountain.

The maximum elevation reaches approximately 564m, with a 104m elevation gain on this Circuit. For those planning an afternoon walk with hopes of witnessing the sunset from the lookout, it’s crucial to bring ample lighting. The enveloping forests can plunge into darkness rather swiftly, making proper illumination a necessity.

According to the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, this distinctive section of the Tamborine National Park earned its declaration in 1908, marking it as Queensland’s inaugural national park. Over the decades, more reserves have been declared, and presently, the park encompasses 14 distinct sections of land on the Tamborine plateau and its adjacent foothills, each offering unique and rewarding hiking experiences.

Tamborine Mountain hiking offers an unparalleled opportunity to immerse oneself in the vibrant and diverse landscapes of Queensland’s first national park. The trails, whether it’s the stunning Witches Falls Circuit or any other enchanting path in the vicinity, promise a journey through lush forests, diverse fauna, and breathtaking views, making it a must-visit destination for every hiking enthusiast. As you traverse through the stunning hiking trails at Tamborine Mountain, let the beauty and tranquility of the surroundings envelop you, leaving you with memories to cherish and stories to share.
